Working to create images that “feel like you” requires a willingness to be open and collaborative on both sides. With that being said, I know it can be super weird to introduce yourself to some stranger on the internet. – So I’ll go first!
I grew up in the suburbs of New Jersey – just outside of Philadelphia – and moved to Boston after college for a job in neuroscience research. I will always be a scientist at heart, but I learned quickly after college that all the “expected job paths” for a human with science degrees didn’t really make me happy. Making art in some form has always brought me joy, and once I made the switch from research to photography, I knew there was no going back.
When I’m not taking photos, you can find me running, getting my butt kicked by a CrossFit class, or (recently!) learning how to dance salsa and bachata! On long drives, you can almost guarantee that I’m listening to either the latest episode of a true crime podcast (order of preference: Morbid > Crime Junkies), This American Life, or the acoustic cover of some pop song that was never meant to be acoustic. I also enjoy pretty much any opportunity to be creative with words/writing and love writing spoken word poetry when the inspiration strikes.
My photography is pretty reflective of who I am. I like bright and true to life colors, but I also revel in a dose of dramatic flare [*jazz hands*] when a little bit of creative license can contribute to the story. At the root of how I approach photography is the idea that people are so multidimensional. We aren’t just “happy” vs “moody” or “strong” vs “tender.” We run the gamut of experiences and deserve to be documented in our complexity. Which is to say: I’m a big fan of both well-directed couples sessions AND artfully captured candids. So, if how I document the world feels like you – and you’re willing to let me in to understand your story enough to let me tell a piece of it – then we’re probably a great match!
